Communicant's Class Info

Have you been wondering how your child can learn more about the Lord’s Supper or when he or she can begin enjoying the sacrament?  Do you have questions about how your child joins the church as a ‘full’ member, or if he or she is even ready to join?  To begin addressing these questions and to move our children forward in these areas, we are beginning a year-long Communicant’s Sunday School class for 5th and 6th graders to begin Sunday, September 13th.  If your child has already taken this class in its past form and has begun to demonstrate a readiness for membership, your child may take the class again, as it may be beneficial before joining, or you may schedule an interview with an elder directly.  We will be using a new dynamic curriculum entitled Understanding the Faith, by Stephen Smallman.  We believe this year-long study will help better prepare our covenant children for a public confession of faith.

Some of you know that in our denomination all of our children upon baptism become “non-communing members”.  As members, they are entitled to all of the privileges and benefits that accompany life in the family of God except partaking of the Lord’s Supper and voting rights.  “Communing membership” entitles them to the privileges of voting on such important matters as issues of property, selection of their pastors, and the nomination and election of their elders and deacons, as well as enjoyment of the Lord’s Supper.  We believe biblically that a measure of understanding and responsibility must accompany such privileges.

The Communicant’s Class is designed for parents who believe their child is ready to explore church membership, the meaning of the sacraments, and the essence of saving faith.  Upon completion of this class an elder will meet with each child to talk with him or her about their relationship to Jesus, and their understanding of the Lord’s Supper.  They will then be recommended to become “communing” members and join Trinity much the same way everyone else does with vows taken during public worship, etc.

Regardless of how much training your child has enjoyed regarding membership, the sacraments, and Christ’s work on their behalf, we are excited to have the privilege to share with them all the beauty of Christ’s Church, the wonders of His grace, and the mystery of His sacraments.   Feel free to call or email with any questions or thoughts.  Thank you for the privilege of sharing Christ’s love with your children.

In Him,
