Mission & Vision
Vision
Trinity Presbyterian Church exists to glorify God through exalting, communicating, and
modeling the freedom of the Gospel found only in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mission
As citizens of the Kingdom of God, worshippers are inspired by the Gospel of Grace
to delight in the character and presence of their Maker and Redeemer. The resulting renewal
is expressed in:
- servant-minded men and women free to pursue lives of sacrificial service.
- a community where God’s children are free to commit to relationships, to together
confront their hypocrisy, and to confess their need for and dependence upon God’s
grace. In light of that pervasive grace we celebrate all of life together. - a congregation free to expend themselves joyfully and humbly in the work of bringing
mercy and justice to the city. - a generation free to engage, participate in, and contribute to culture with humility,
industry, and creativity. - a refuge where seekers, strugglers, and sinners alike are free to investigate and to
pursue a dynamic relationship with the Living God.
VALUES
- At Trinity, we value the worship of the Living and Ruling God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Trinity will guard against a man-centered, pragmatic, idol-ridden view of worship, The Church, or the Christian life; pursing instead a continual struggle to discover the equilibrium between keeping God as God and man as man against our impulses to exalt ourselves and denigrate Him.
- At Trinity we value the Gospel of all grace.
We seek to be a Grace-saturated church where everything that we teach, write or model will be drenched with this message of and reliance upon God’s incomprehensible grace.
- At Trinity we value the freedom the Gospel brings.
We seek to be a church intoxicated with the liberating free grace of the Gospel. Such intoxication will free us from the tyranny of pretense, self-excusing or defending and the fear of confronting our hypocrisy. And it will free us to serve, sacrifice and obey our loving Father.
- At Trinity we value those not yet in the church or Christians.
Everything is done with a commitment and sensitivity to those “not yet here”. There are no “insider moments” in our worship, Sunday Schools, Community Groups, literature, outreach events, parties, etc. Everything is done with an assumption of and thankfulness for non-Christian presence and interaction.
- At Trinity we value community.
We are a church of Community Groups and not with Community Groups.
- At Trinity we value people.
Our church will be built upon and rest with Ministry Teams. We prefer a team approach in every existing and future church endeavor. If Community Groups provide our church’s muscle, then our Ministry Teams are its skeleton.
- At Trinity we value the church.
We are a church committed to the growth of Christ’s Church everywhere, to the planting of churches throughout Hampton Roads and to other evangelical churches across Norfolk.
- At Trinity we value the city.
We are a church that prioritizes and invests in Mercy Ministry.
- At Trinity we value culture.
We are a church committed to engaging and edifying “every square inch” of culture.
- At Trinity we value connection.
We are a church committed to drawling linkages for our congregation across centuries, traditions and geography.
